Area Police
Approximately 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Police state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then located numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say early analysis suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are presently not aware of any physical harm in association with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A senior political figure said the incident rendered him speechless and needed to be solved promptly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, referring to the murder of nine people by a shooter aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
